Once again out to prove that the best things in life really ARE free, look what Abby and I found....FREE perennials. A few blocks down, we saw a box filled with these Tiger Lily's that some one was thoughtful enough to share. After a weekend of garden work (see yesterdays post) I was in full green thumb mode so I snatched up 2 or 3 of the clippings from the box...I didn't want to be greedy. When perennials come back year after year, some varieties , like lilys or hostas can grow really quick and take over. A great filler , but if you didn't allot enough room for them from the get go, it might get really crowded. So split them. Of course you can compost the scraps, but if you think someone might be able to use them, then by all means, why not share the love. After taking the same route 2 days later, I saw the box was still there. Hmmm, I felt 2 days was enough time for others to take their share, so I picked up the box and proudly carried the rest home. After all, I couldn't just leave them sitting out there to go to waste....they still had a lot of life to give, regardless of their spelling.
I planted the whole lot in our back corner that gets alot of sun. It is right where the nice wood fence ends and the neighbors chain begins, so I was looking for an natural screen. I have no idea their variety, but I hope in a few years the look like this. We had this type all over our family farm.
