When conjuring up this whole idea of doing 30 projects in 8 weeks and displaying it all at a local street fair, giving back to the community, in some way, was one of the key components. After tossing around a few options, I thought a silent auction would be the best with all proceeds going to a local charity. It was not a surprise that the Humane Society came to mind and with Bad Dog Frida being a customer of mine, I thought we could partner up. The owner, Carmen even suggested displaying the items for auction in their window the week prior to the event to generate a little more buzz. Cool ! My own little window showcase.Yesterday I delivered the items and they should be on display later this weekend. Both are doggie inspired and are very very green. The window was from my sis's house and the glass for the mosaics...would you guess from this. After leaving it outside after a late frost, all the pieces popped off. Not willing to cast it off just yet, I washed all the shards and gave them new life in this piece.
The flowers are left over gems and the stems are trimmed ends from this. Proof that I really do save almost everything. Eye hooks to hang are included and the frame has been sealed with a poly to prevent all that great weathered, chipped paint from flaking in your home.
As for the school chair, I wanted to stay away from the 'over themed', so I took a more whimsical approach. Puppy 101...text included. (used of course)
Covered in layers of newspaper, the 'accident' is surrounded by the suspects trail. A collaborative effort too. I originally just had the spot and Nate thought some paw prints would be a fun touch....I agree.
Even the signage for the window is green. A left over garden paver makes a nice ad for my booth and the donation sign is one of the old kitchen cabinets from here.
Bidding for both items starts this weekend and the winner will be announced at the close of the fair July 25th. See Bad Dog Frida for details.
